New to Christianity? Start Here
Welcome. If you are new to following Jesus, you are in the right place, and we are glad you’re here. This page will help you know where to begin, what matters most, and what comes next.
What just happened?
If you have trusted in Jesus Christ, God has done something real in you.
Your sins are forgiven
You are made right with God
You are now a child of God
This is not because of good works, church attendance, or effort.
It is because of Jesus.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”
— Ephesians 2:8 (ESV)
What Is the Bible and Why Should I Read It?
The Bible is God’s Word. It shows us who God is and how to follow Him.
Teaches truth (John 17:17)
Points us to Jesus (John 5:39)
Guides our life (Psalm 119:9 &119:105)
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching.”
— 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
We recommend the English Standard Version (ESV) because it is clear, accurate, and trusted. There are many other trusted versions available, so if you have one other than the ESV, feel free to use that. The best Bible is the one you’ll read.
Where should I start reading?
Read a chapter a day, soak in, and try to understand what you read. Take notes about verses that are confusing or unclear; we know some can be and may need explanation.
The Gospel of John – Learn who Jesus is
The Gospel of Mark – Learn what Jesus did
Romans (chapters 1-8) – Understand salvation
Psalms – This is a book filled with various prayers, poems, and hymns of Praise, Thanksgiving, Wisdom, Trust, and other areas. Here are just a few to start with.
Psalm 1 – A Psalm of wisdom.
Psalm 32 & 34 – Psalms for forgiveness of sin, His presence and protection.
Psalm 146 – A Psalm of praise
Psalms 24 & 130 – Psalms of trusting God.
How do I pray?
The disciples of Jesus asked the same thing. Jesus provided an example of how to pray in Matthew 6:9 -14.
Thanking God
Asking for help
Confessing sin
Praising Him
What about sin and change?
Following Jesus means turning away from sin and learning a new way to live.
You will still struggle. That does not mean you are not saved.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us.” — 1 John 1:9 (ESV)
Remember, growth takes time. God is patient.
Why does church matter?
Attending church regularly helps you grow, provides encouragement, provides clear teaching, and cares for you.
What should I do next?
Read your Bible and pray, daily. Attend church, meet with Christians who can help you grow. Ask questions, your new church family will help you to understand them.
